7/14/2023 0 Comments A journey into a black hole![]() 11Ī supermassive black hole has a slightly less horrendous effect, so let’s imagine then that you opt for one of these to make your giant leap for mankind and scientific research. The black hole’s gravity force would compress you from top to toe, while stretching you at the same time…thus, spaghetti. If you leapt heroically into a stellar-mass black hole, your body would be subjected to a process called ‘spaghettification’ (no, really, it is). So, the big question – what would happen if you fell into a black hole? Well, the prognosis isn’t great, to be truthful, whichever sort of black hole you picked. This ‘halo’ is actually a visualisation of the heat given out by hot gas swirling around the event horizon – the very edge of the black hole – as it’s being pulled in. The image shows a bright ring around a black hole 6.5 billion times more massive than the Sun, 55 million light years from Earth. In April 2019, an image of a black hole and its shadow in the galaxy Messier 87, part of the Virgo galaxy cluster, was captured for the first time using the Event Horizon Telescope, an array of eight ground-based radio telescopes specifically designed to capture images of a black hole. ![]() This was caused by two black holes colliding, 1.3 billion years earlier! 9īlack holes can be located by the effect they have on what’s around them – they suck in gas, dust and stars, which becomes superheated and emits radiation that can then be ‘seen’ as a heat image. Then, a century later in 2015, he was proved correct when gravitational waves were detected for the first time by researchers at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO). In 1915, Albert Einstein theorized that when objects move through space, they create waves in spacetime (a concept which fuses space and time) 8 around them, just like ripples moving across the surface of a pond. As a result, huge radio telescopes and gravitational wave detectors are used instead of conventional telescopes. 7īlack holes have such an immense gravitational pull that not even light can escape, so they cannot be seen directly. From general relativity to quantum physics and string theory, black holes offer experts a testing ground for fundamental theories that explain how the universe operates. Einstein’s general relativity says that when matter is pulled into a black hole, its information is destroyed – but quantum mechanics says that cannot happen.Īs a result, black holes are an incredible theoretical playground for astrophysicists and mathematicians, attempting to reconcile the two theories. The forces at play there are so immense that science can’t agree about what happens next. When we look at the centre of a black hole – the ‘singularity’ – it gets complicated. But from there on in – quite literally – they put Einstein’s theory to the test. Einstein’s theory of general relativity 6 states that matter warps time and space, creating what we call gravity – and black holes are incredibly dense conglomerations of matter, hence their incredible gravitational pull. Not only do black holes explain the seemingly chaotic movements of some stars and help make sense of our galaxy, but they represent a new realm of physics for scientists. It is thought that these are the black holes that merge to form the supermassive variety. They’re still a bit of a mystery, with only a few having been discovered, but they’re each believed to have a mass of between 100 and 100,000 Suns. 4 Intermediate-mass black holes are a third category that – as the name suggests – falls somewhere between the previous two. It is thought that this type of black hole reaches its enormous size by merging with other black holes, as well as by subsuming stars. 3 The largest, known as supermassive black holes, can have masses that are millions if not billions of times the mass of the Sun. They form after the centre of a large star collapses, causing a supernova (the explosion of a star). Stellar-mass black holes are the smallest between 1 and 100 times the mass of the Sun. Astronomers believe that most spiral and elliptical galaxies have black holes at their centres. 1īlack holes are objects with extreme density, and the amount of mass they have means they have so much gravitational pull that even light gets trapped. If the core's mass is more than about three times the mass of the Sun, the force of gravity overwhelms all the other forces, the remnant collapses and produces a black hole. ![]() Black holes are forged from the small, dense, remnant cores of dead stars. ![]() 7/14/2023 0 Comments X box game![]() ![]() In 2001, the division was renamed Microsoft Game Studios (MGS). Frank’s disillusionment with live has driven him to the bottle. Educating Rita tells a story of a 26-year-old married hairdresser, Rita, who decided to get education by taking a course in English literature from the Open University. Rita has a passion for literature and is intent upon self-improvement. The original production received the 1980 Olivier Award nomination for Comedy Performance of the Year for Julie Walters. The same year the Chichester Festival staged a production with Lashana Lynch as Rita and Lenny Henry and Frank. She won an award of distinction at the 2020 Black Women in Hollywood Awards and in 2022 played an Earth-838 variant of her Captain Marvel character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Educating Rita is the unforgettable story of the relationship between a feisty Liverpudlian hairdresser and a jaded university professor. Educating Rita is a stage comedy by British playwright Willy Russell. She also played the role of Rosaline Capulet in the ABC period drama series Still-Star Crossed in 2017. In 2019, she played Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel and in 2021 played Nomi, the new 007 agent in No Time to Die. She won accolades for her lead role in the 2015 Chichester Festival Theatre production of Educating Rita and in 2016 was cast as the leading character in the American period drama series Still Star-Crossed. Lynch made her film debut in 2012 in Fast Girls and has since appeared in TV shows like Silent Witness and Death in Paradise and was a regular cast member on the short-lived BBC comedy Crims in 2015. While there she was awarded the Laurence Olivier Bursary during her second year at Arts Educational Schools, London in 2009. His performance as the shambling, cynical, disillusioned, alcoholic career academic Frank Bryant, is timid, unsure and fails to make any impact against the overwhelmingly confident turn of Lashana Lynch as. She is of Jamaican descent and attended Twyford CofE High School and Arts Educational School drama school in London. Lenny Henry who makes his Chichester debut in Willy Russells classic comedy, Educating Rita, about the transformative power of education, is set to pass on. But tonight, at the opening of Willy Russell’s iconic Educating Rita, at Chichester’s Minerva Theatre, he struggled to get it right. Fortunately, the show, directed with spirit by Michael Buffong, having survived this first night, is lively and amusing enough (as teachers like to say of their best pupils) to graduate with distinction.Lashana Lynch is a British actress born on 27 November 1987 in Hammersmith, London. Henry was rescued by Lynch’s gallantry and cool as she returned with a flourish but it would be untrue to pretend this was a non-event. Educating Rita is a stage comedy by British playwright Willy Russell. The house lights came up and there was a stunned moment (I cannot remember one as dramatic) in which one was reminded of just how hard the learning feat we take for granted in actors is. And on the press night, as if taking his cue from his character, Henry became suddenly blotto, lost his lines and had to leave the stage. Lenny Henry’s Frank is so successfully unprepossessing – a subdued old soak – that it is a strain to believe Rita could be in his thrall for a moment, let alone entertained or able to learn anything from him. ![]() 7/14/2023 0 Comments Andy mcdowell![]() Her line about the rain at the end of ‘Four Weddings’ is routinely mocked as the worst part of the film (she didn’t write it you know!) and in her first movie ‘Greystoke’, she was dubbed – much to her embarrassment – by Glenn Close. The answer is a difficult one.įrankly, MacDowell has never been particularly esteemed as an actress despite her three Golden Globe nominations. In fact, other than an episode of ’30 Rock’ in 2012, the 58-year-old actress has been in nothing high-profile since, er, well ‘Multiplicity’ with Michael Keaton in 1996 was alright… So it’s kind of a surprise that 21 years later, she only just returned to the mainstream with a supporting role in ‘Magic Mike XXL’. But 1994 was the year of ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ and after being released in the US on 15 April, it was slowly turning into a box office juggernaut. When TODAY’s Al Roker congratulated her on becoming a grandma, MacDowell said, “I just spent Christmas with her. I was also thinking about how my neck looked, those kinds of things. In a January 6 interview with Parade, she described the process and how she embodied her character in the past. In “The Way Home,” time-traveling scenes required her to undergo physical transformations so she could play a younger version of herself. MacDowell started out as a model in the 1980s for iconic brands like L’Oreal and Calvin Klein, and then rose to greater fame as an actress, starting with 1989’s “Sex, Lies and Videotape,” and 1990s comedies like “Groundhog Day” and “Three Weddings and a Funeral.” Gett圜hyler Leigh, Andie MacDowell and Sadie Laflamme-Snow at the Hallmark Channel preview of “The Way Home” on January 11, 2023 ![]() 7/14/2023 0 Comments Soggy biscuit girls![]() ![]() ![]() Whenever good pals gather to play FIFA or watch telly, and one fancies teasing the tamarind, a communal ‘spuzzjar’ is produced and handed reverently to him.
